The Gillian Whylie Scholarship Fund

The Gillian Whylie Scholarship Fund (GWSF) is a duly registered, charity organization established to promote the education and vocational training of Jamaican students with special emphasis on students pursing studies in Modern Languages.  The Fund is meant to continue the legacy of Gillian Whylie, who lived her life in support of advancing the learning and use of modern languages.

In specific terms, the Fund will provide financial assistance by awarding scholarships, bursaries or maintenance and travel allowances or otherwise to further the education and training of students at any educational institution approved by the Fund.

All proceeds donated to or accrued by the Fund will be used solely to provide scholarships in support of such promising but needy students as selected by a Committee established by the Fund.  Your financial donations and support to the GWSF are highly appreciated.  Through its website, all donors and sponsors of the Fund will be kept abreast of the work and achievements of the GWSF. Thank you for your support.

Each year, based on available funds, the GWSF will provide scholarships to selected students based on set criteria to pursue courses in Modern Languages and preferably in French at the upper level of St. Jago High School (alma mater of Gillian Whylie) and to the University of the West Indies to undertake a Bachelors Degree.

In keeping with Gillian’s love for music, comedy, and dance, an International, Cultural Gala will be held annually to garner funds for the work of the GWSF.  This Gala will capture the culture of selected countries in the region and beyond, including Jamaica.  This evening of high quality cultural entertainment will be a worthy and satisfying event available to all.  Tickets for this event will be available on the website and selected outlets closer to the time of the event.  The first Gala is slated for Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Pegasus Hotel.

The Directors of the Gillian Whylie Scholarship Fund are:
Paul Whylie (Executive Secretary), Nikita Edwards, Horace Lewis and Ransford Smith.

The office of the GWSF is located at 24 Charlemont Avenue, Kingston 6, Jamaica
